Maxx (Boo Boo)
Where to begin
with my story about this incredible dog. I got Maxx the first year of my
marriage to Peggy, because she had already gotten Pookie and I wanted a dog of
my own. I actually had chosen his brother aptly named Juggernaught because all the
dogs from this litter had huge heads and very small bodies, but juggernaught had the
biggest of them all. When I went back to purchase jug head he had been bought
and so I decided to take this very small big headed pure white puppy. From the
moment I put him in the car I knew he and I were going to be best buds.
Maxx was a very
independent dog but when he wanted attention he was in your lap giving you the
most tender of kisses, like he knew to be gentle with us although he was a 65-70
lb dog. His favorite place was our sofa although I tried desperately to keep him
off of it, he preferred the comfy feel of that couch, and so in the end he won
over his right to sleep up there and funny thing is he would only let Fluffy
(his daughter) to sleep up there with him at times.
You've probably heard many people talk about how their dog
was the best dog they have ever met, and I'm sure they were. But I can't
remember him ever doing anything bad like most dogs
do especially when they're puppies. Maxx seemed to
stay out of trouble and on the good side of Peggy
and I until he got older and we found that he would
do things to get the other dogs in trouble. He was an instigator but I really
didn't mind because Maxx could do know wrong in my
eyes. Just ask my wife, she would always get on me
about giving him special treatment but I told her that as long as that
dog had breath in his body he would get special
treatment from his daddy (me). I lived up to my end
of the deal and treated him like he was a king and really he was.
Unfortunately, dogs don't live as long as humans and on
February 8th, 2007 we had to put Maxx to sleep. He had gotten sick the week
before with Shar Pei fever although he had never really been sick a day of his
life the disease had taken this brilliant, incredible friend and cut his life
short. He was 11 years old when he died and I know
that this breed doesn't live past 12 years usually. But I felt that his life was
cut short because of a disease and not of old age.
I will never forget my friend Maxx, he brought such
joy to our lives and made us better people for having the privilege of being
this dogs caretaker.
We Love and Miss You Maxxie!
